Gregory Butz, a resident of Saratoga Lane in Glenview, IL, draws on experience at the digital marketing agency Wire Stone to serve as the vice president of marketing at Serta. An avid runner in his free time, Gregory Butz recently traveled from his Glenview, IL, home to compete in the 2018 Chicago Marathon. Sponsored by Bank of America and known formally as the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, the race is considered one of the world’s most prestigious races. The Chicago Marathon convened for the 41st time on October 7, 2018, when approximately 45,000 runners gathered in Grant Park for the annual event. Taking place on a damp and gray 58-degree day that saw intermittent rain, the race followed a flat route through 29 of the city’s neighborhoods. Elite runners in the field included American and defending champion Galen Rupp and Ethiopia’s Roza Dereje. Thousands of fans also lined the streets to cheer on the participants. By mid-morning, these spectators watched as 20-year-old Daniel Romanchuk of Champaign crossed the finish line to win the men’s wheelchair marathon. Following Romanchuk was Switzerland’s Manuela Schar, who ended a streak of near-victories to record her first Chicago women’s wheelchair championship. Later in the day, Britain’s Mo Farah added to a list of accomplishments, which includes four Olympic medals, when he won the men’s marathon. On the women’s side, Brigid Kosgei of Kenya improved on her second-place finish from 2017 to take first in the women’s race. Leave a Reply. |
